🐋 Whale Watching in Hermanus (July to November)
Ranked by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as one of the world’s top 12 whale-watching destinations, Hermanus (~120 km southeast of Cape Town) offers extraordinary land-based whale watching:
- The Cliff Path: A 12-kilometer paved pedestrian trail hugging the rocky coastline, allowing visitors to watch Southern Right Whales playing, breaching, and nursing calves within 10 to 20 meters of the cliffs.
- The Whale Crier: The world’s only official Whale Crier sounds a kelp horn to alert visitors to whale locations in Walker Bay.
🌸 West Coast Wildflower Superbloom (August & September)
For approximately 6 weeks each spring, the arid landscape of Postberg Nature Reserve in West Coast National Park explodes into a vibrant multi-colored carpet of endemic daisies, bulbs, and succulents. Postberg is only open to the public during August and September.
