Housed within a monumental 1920s historic grain silo complex re-engineered by renowned British designer Thomas Heatherwick, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is Africa’s largest museum dedicated to 21st-century art from the continent and its diaspora.
Located in the vibrant Silo District of the V&A Waterfront, the museum features over 6,000 square meters of exhibition space across nine gallery floors surrounding a breathtaking carved concrete atrium.

🏛️ Architectural Marvel: The Carved Concrete Atrium
The defining feature of Zeitz MOCAA is its central cathedral-like atrium:
- The Grain Kernel Core: Heatherwick’s team digitally mapped a single grain of corn and carved its magnified elliptical shape directly out of the 42 vertical concrete storage tubes using diamond-blade saws.
- Pillow Facade Windows: The upper hotel floors feature faceted geometric glass windows that bulge outward like glowing lantern pillows, reflecting changing harbor light.
